22 October 2009, Perth Australia

On 22 October 2009, four sincerely practicing Theravadan nuns in Australia received full ordination into their Sangha.

Bhikkhuni ordination, Bodhinyana Monastery, Perth, Australia, 22 October 2009

As a result of the ceremony, Ajahn Vayama and Sisters Nirodha, Seri and Hasapanna from Dhammasara Monastery in Perth, Australia, are now fully ordained Theravadan nuns.

Bhikkhunis!

They were enthusiastically supported in their determination to seek ordination by representatives of their lay community from the Buddhist Society of Western Australia, by their preceptor Ayya Tathaaloka and by abbotts of fellow monasteries Bodhinyana and Santi Forest Monastery.

May these new Theravadan Bhikkhunis be the first of many more in Australian and across the world.

This petition (which was closed to further signatures on 21 December 2009) registered your support for Bhikkhuni ordination in the Forest tradition.
