About
This site and petition came into being out of a conversation between some Theravadin Buddhists on the Women & the Forest Sangha group on facebook.
Our belief is that this precious human birth gives each of us the right to practice the Buddha’s path in all it’s forms.
We ask that you join us in celebrating the much rejoiced Bhikkhuni ordinations and help honour this significant moment in Buddhist history by:
- Supporting the recently ordained Bhikkhunis: Vayama, Nirodha, Seri and Hasapanna from Dhammasara
- Respecting and supporting the wishes of the lay community that asked for the ordination to proceed: Buddhist Society of Western Australia
- Supporting the monastics that assisted: Ayya Tathaaloka from Dhammadharini/Bodhi House, Ajahn Brahmavamso from Bodhinyana, Bhante Sujato from Santi
- Working together with your local Buddhist groups, teachers and monastics to understand more about Bhikkhuni ordination …
We’d like to offer our thanks to those who have registered their support for Bhikkhuni ordination by signing the petition.
The petition was closed to further signatures on 21 December 2009, and the petition text and signatures and comments have been made available here.
